Coffee & Kareem: The Inspiring Story Behind Black Wellness Coffee’s Mission to Heal The Philippines

Imagine this…

…you’re walking through lush fields, where farmers, with generations of passion and wisdom, cultivate coffee the way God meant it to be—patiently, lovingly, under the sun, with Mother Nature’s rhythm guiding them.

Real, traditional farmers, who know the soul of coffee, not just the business of it.

Farmers, whose hands tell stories of resilience, their families’ livelihoods tied to this Black Gold for centuries. But now, these same farmers are being smothered, and outpaced by corporations selling cheap, instant imposters—manmade, bioengineered, and pumped full of chemicals disguised as convenience.

Meanwhile, back in America, we’re already seeing the consequences –the death.

American Communities, are sicker than ever, drowning in diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

American Families, are breaking bread with foods that aren’t even food anymore—fruits grown in labs, meats designed in test tubes, and coffee that’s barely coffee -if at all. It’s all sugar-laden, acid-packed, and aggressively marketed to keep people unconsciously addicted.

And now, they are targeting the Philippines.

However, seeing the Americans sickly lifestyles, here in the Philippines, something different is brewing.

Philippines Farmers, and the legacy they represent, are part of a global awakening.

People are starting to understand the inherent value of what’s real, what’s God-given, what nourishes -and what destroys- not just the body, but the also soul. And leading this charge is Black Wellness Coffee—proof that the authentic, slow-grown, sun-dried coffee that families have mastered for generations is not only better, it’s life-saving.

This isn’t just about coffee; it’s about fighting back. It’s about helping these farmers reclaim their place on the world stage while offering the West an alternative to the poison it’s been sipping for too long. It’s about standing up for wellness, for tradition, and for the power of nature to heal what’s been broken. And it all starts with one smooth, bold, black cup at a time -2 cups a day is recommended by doctors.

Kareem Jackson: Brewing Wellness, One Cup at a Time

Kareem Jackson, the award-winning Black-American multi-media entrepreneur, has turned his personal wellness journey and professional platform into an unapologetic, revolutionary coffee movement and calling out big Agra.

Invited by the Philippines Department of Tourism (DOT) to explore eco-friendly farms and resorts numerous times for his magazines and live shows, Kareem found himself captivated by the natural richness of the Philippines. His media ventures, including The Philippines Magazine International, were supported by the DOT to promote Philippines lifestyle, tourism and farming, sparking an unexpected transformation in his life and career.

A Life-Changing Discovery

Kareem’s wake-up call came during a wellness retreat he hosted for women over 60 in the Philippines -one his mother just happened to be part of.

Observing how the retreat’s participants thrived on the local diet and how many stopped needing medications (such as high-blood pressure and anxiety) they relied on in the U.S., he began to question the health implications of Western diets.

Once the retreats were over (1 to 2 months retreats depending on their packages and goals), then back in the States, these same women reverted back, to medications for high blood pressure and other ailments.

Kareem was intrigued, and he dove into research, uncovering how U.S. foods, often banned in other countries, are linked to severe health issues.

He then, contacted the PH DOT again, and went on a few more farm tours, this time specifically to learn about the processes.

One of his discoveries centered around coffee. A staple for many Americans, coffee in its purest form is a health powerhouse.

However, instant coffee mixes and sugary drinks like 3-in-1 sachets are packed with harmful and sometimes deadly additives.

Kareem, who almost died from drinking these fake coffees; but had always thought it was an isolated event of his alone, now realized the urgent need for change. Drawing parallels between the marketing of unhealthy products to Black Americans and Filipinos, he decided to act.

“Why do we never see advertising campaigns, or get big ad budgets from ‘food’ suppliers, growers, or even farmers?”Kareem Jackson

The Birth of Black Wellness Coffee

Kareem launched Black Wellness Coffee, the first Black-owned wellness coffee brand in Asia, with a mission to re-introduce the world to real, all-natural, hand-farmed, hand-picked, pesticide-free, holistic, God-made coffee.

Working with local farmers introduced to him by the PH DOT, and using his platform to re-educate both U.S. and Filipino audiences, Kareem built a campaign (Got Coffee?) and a brand (Black Wellness Coffees) rooted in wellness and sustainability. From the start, Kareem and his team aimed to rival industry giants like Nescafé—but with a focus on health awareness, affordability, and guilt-free indulgence.

Kareem set the Black Wellness Coffees brand apart, by investing in high-quality, traditional, eco-friendly packaging. Instead of plastic or toxic printed boxes, Black Wellness Coffee comes in mini jute sacks and handcrafted wooden collectable crates, made by local Filipino artisans. This decision not only supports local carpenters but also aligns with the brand’s commitment to sustainability –and for investment savvy folks, it’s actually cheaper.

Kareem and his team launched campaigns like Got Coffee? to celebrate the smooth, rich flavor of real coffee. Their Free Taste! events introduce people to coffee so good it can be enjoyed black—no need for sugary creams to mask bitterness.

*While many assume the name “Black Wellness” refers to Kareem’s heritage, it actually highlights the healthiest way to drink coffee: black and pure.

“Imagine if Nescafé, Unilever or Starbucks hired us to disrupt the wellness coffee industry here,” Kareem told his team. “That’s the level of impact we’re aiming for. What would we do for them? Nw, let’s do that now…”

A Mission Fueled by Angel Investors

Kareem’s vision started and was fueled by his own funds, and then, attracted two angel investors: his mother Shirley, a sickle cell survivor, and Ms. Tammy, a three-time cancer survivor who were both on one of his wellness retreats -and loved it!

Neither Shirley, nor Tammy were coffee drinkers and never drank -or enjoyed- coffee before trying Black Wellness Coffees during a wellness retreat in the Philippines. Convinced by its quality and health benefits, they invested in the venture, helping Kareem raise over ₱250,000/$5,000USD to further develop and test launch the brand’s first batch in the Philippines. Successful, they now are seeking another ₱550,000/$10,000 for team development and to scale.

Today, Kareem’s shows, including the aptly named Coffee & Kareem, promote the health benefits of natural coffee, from its natural energy-boosting caffeine to its ability to cleanse the liver and improve digestion. Kareem’s personal story—a 52-year-old with zero medications—inspires countless others to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

*Kareem has subsequently dropped, all other less healthy sponsorships (such as liquor and fake foods) or reduced them to select promotions.

A Bright Future in Black Gold

Through partnerships with the DOT, local farmers, angels, and Filipino artisans, Kareem is not just building a coffee brand; he’s fostering a movement that bridges cultures, promotes wellness, and ultimately saves lives.
