Filipinos are no strangers to "street food." In the Philippines,
vendors peddle an assortment of meats, fruits and other "blanks"-
on-a-stick, bring ing delicacies like f ish balls, binatog (boiled corn
kernels with salt), balut (boiled egg with a duck embryo inside)
and isaw (g rilled pork and chicken intestines on a stick) to hung ry
pedestrians all over the city.
In Los Angeles and San Francisco, the recently spaw ned "Food
Truck" phenomenon is a gourmet evolution of street food - except
since no one really walks in LA - food vendors need more mobility
than a street vendor cart would provide.

Enterprising Filipinos have taken to this trend, taking some of our
favorite dishes "mobile."
All it takes is a tricked-out ice-cream
truck-ty pe vehicle with a mobile kitchen, a Twit ter account and a
webpage, and a business is born. Think of them as mobile cafes
which the hung ry eater needs to track dow n in order to access their
particular cravings. If you're in the Southern California area, check
out these Filipino food trucks on their Twit ter pages to see where
they're serving next!
